      @clacke Which still makes no sense to me.

      Vladimir Putin appears to be attempting to reassemble the old Soviet empire and to thereby restore Russia to glory. Yet, if he'd just crack down on corruption and cronyism, so that the life of the average Russian improves, he would also be seen as a savior, without having to reconquer Ukraine and other former hostage states that are now independent. That would make Russia greater than it has ever been.

      It seems to me that @zerohedge and other right-wingish media should be among the harshest Putin critics simply because he'd rather endanger world peace than fight against the internal corruption that benefits his own friends and allies.
