The fediverse these days frankly depresses me. Genuinely. It had the potential to be a place where even those with strongly disparate viewpoints could converse respectfully, and for a time, thats just what it was.
Then Mastodon happened and with it any hope for this network to continue that way died.
-
From the software level, breaking many long established conventions so that others could not use them on the same network, to the toxic, self-centered community obsessed with controlling others, Mastodon is wholly antagonistic.
It cannot coexist as part of a healthy social network.
-
These days I see literally no negative to blocking federation with mastodon nodes.
-
The amount of time saved just not having to constantly police TWKN for violent shitheads is a huge plus to consider though.
-
Im tired of watching disruptive people ruinn the community I love and dig next to nothing to try to coexist. Tonight, Im writing a script to block instances by software used.
-
Giving without getting anything back is foolish and that community of hooligans has abused and exploited my trust for too long.

Yeah, it's oft very tempting to just stick to the Public Timeline, less chance of someone suddenly aggravating being pushed into the feed. Which...defeats the point, of course.
