We moved from one school district to another the summer before I entered 7th grade. They had different grading systems.

I was used to grade cutoffs like A=93+, B=85+...

... amazed by the new easier system: A=90+, B=80+...

... and then learned about "the curve".

It was the beginning of my downward spiral into cynicism and a lifelong battle against pessimism.
