I've been watching Disney's The Little Mermaid with my 2yo over the last couple of days, and it...is problematic and has not aged well.
Some issues:
-Multiple grown-ass adults encouraging a 16 year old girl to use her feminine wiles to seduce an older man.
-The Prince appears to be in his mid-twenties at least. If he was just 20, the "divide by 2 and add 7" rule would still make Ariel too👏young👏for👏him👏
-Prince *Eric*? Was Prince Chad not seaworthy?

-Super-dated trope that men prefer silent, pretty girls
-Honestly, a lot of lazy stereotyping in general (French chef saying "sacre bleu!", bad Cajun accent on Sebastian, "she's got it bad!", and on and on)
-Regular casual violence, you know, just for laughs
-They make a big point about humans eating fish, but dafuq merpeople eat? Kelp? Most fish eat other sea creatures, folks
-The point where fish meets person on the merpeople gets a little, um, pubic

-At the end, an evil sea witch grows several orders of magnitude and starts a giant sea vortex, and Prince Eric is just like, "cool, I'm just gonna steer my ship here, totally normal"
-The coat of arms for Eric's kingdom? An E. A fucking E.
-Ariel hanging on the side of a ship while still a mermaid. She's used to floating, folks. Suddenly, she weighs several times what she used to, and she's just casually hanging on the side of a wet rocking ship

Finally, a hot but correct take - Disney's hand-drawn animation is just not good, you guys. I realize they barely had computers, but it's honestly hard to watch nowadays, it's so jumpy.
