   For a federating software, Mastodon developers sure seem eager to link as little as possible with other software.

      These days I think it wouldn't be at all unfair to say that the values of Mastodon's developers and community are not truly consonant with the values of decentralized federating software.

         It's also something they likely don't care about; they just care about their own ecosystem, except insofar as they gain prestiege or social status by "supporting" other software (usually poorly).

            They do care a great deal about the *appearance* of federating well though.  Just not the actual act thereof.
