      Have you seen the talk pages on Wikipedia? Any good quality debate on MediaWiki sites happens despite the platform, not because of it. I think you would be better to use 'The Git of debates'...

      Well, the alternatives where already mentioned. (and didn't got any comment). #Mattermost, #rocketchat, #matrix, #IRC, …

      If you want to get as close as possible to slack but without vendor lock, Mattermost is the way to go.

      But to me it seems like the decision is already made, it just wants a justification in this issue.

      @strypey Well, a freenode room seems to me the more suitable way to chat these days.

      Users can access it either via IRC, either via the matrix bridge provided by matrix.org.

      Geeks can use their favorite clients/bouncer.

      Non geek users can use the matrix bridge via the riot.im app which is cloning slack in terms of UI. No need of any configuration nor bouncer with this app.
