My latest game obsession has been FTL, a space combat game.

One type of race is (obvs) robotic, and has a great storyline option:
1) Encounter a robot ship that's been hacked by a virus
2) Send robotic crewmember to help. They get hacked, robot ship starts attacking you.
3) Defeat robot ship.
4) Robotic crewmember (now called Virus) is so impressed with your fighting skill, they decide to (re)join your crew - but with all of their skills maxed out.

Hell of a way to skill-up your team, but...
