"Lawrence of Arabia" is a great movie in so many ways, but it does have that ghastly, lazy colonialist narrative of the colonizer showing up and being better at being a native than the actual natives (see also "Dances with Wolves" and "Avatar"). But I think, for art's sake, it's important to be able to acknowledge a work's flaws and still appreciate the things it does well. Unlike "Avatar" and "Wolves", there are real things to appreciate about "Lawrence".

He's in those white robes and all I can think is, how do you keep something like that clean?!

Right, got all the way to the intermission (2hr 20 mins). Time to take a break for the evening and resume in the morning. No-one's watching a 4-hour movie in one go. That way lies madness.
