Just finished two games of multiplayer Battle for Wesnoth over the Internet with @solariiknight. This is the first time I have played a multiplayer game over the Internet. It feels so liberating that it is free software, and that you can run your own server instead of depending on some central server running proprietary software. !freegaming

Yes, some proprietary games do. I remember playing proprietary multiplayer games on the LAN.
