    Canada is not a country, Scott Gilmore says. We're just a collection of people who happen to be moving in roughly the same direction.

    This is...kind of true. I'm not sure it's a bad thing, though. It makes it harder for hateful nationalism to emerge here.

      I should point out that I don't think that Gilmore article is particularly well-written. He misunderstands some basic concepts like the state monopoly on violence (an idea that refers to police, not military, at least in states where the two are distinct entities) and he uses nation, state and country interchangeably. It's not a great article, but the core argument largely rings true. Gilmore thinks it's a bad thing. I tend to think it's a good thing.
