Wew, new Ubuntu LTS... I stopped using Ubuntu years ago. Let me recount the ways it has stricken me.

    broken packages 🙁
uniquely maintained patches from upstream ☹
    massive test suites disabled 😦
hidden bugs from said patches and disabled suites 😢
get stuck on LTS because upgrades are a nightmare. 😭

I'm literally still running 12.04 on a (non-web facing) server somewhere because there's no upgrade path without a full rebuild.

@thurloat I ran Ubuntu for years, until I couldn't handle the mess anymore. I switched to Fedora KDE spin and never looked back.

I run CentOS (and some Fedora) on servers (I've pretty much always run mostly Red Hat based servers).

The system is amazingly solid and refined. I only had one minor problem with it on my laptop in the last three years.

Upgrades are incredibly smooth on Fedora -- not one broken system so far!
