Ted Gould@david_ross I think it is also client based. For instance, I'm using Pinafore which does different cropping. And I think the mobile clients are different as well.
I think you probably want to use the focus point that was just introduced so that the cropping can always do a reasonable job instead of optimizing to a particular size or ratio.
