All too often I hear the following argument:
1. [software] is out and looks useful. Let me use it without regard for its licensing terms.

2. Free software only works in theory because existing free software doesn't work.
3. It's a shame that I *have* to compromise.

What people fail to realize is that the true compromise occurred when they (un)knowingly surrendered to the temptations of [shiny software].

And the more we give up now when computers aren't mandatory for participation in civilization, the less free we'll be later on.
