The national signature dish that nationals love and foreigners cant stomach is pretty common.
But what about its counterpart? Does your nationality have this signature dish that foreigners love, but your national characteristic is to be dead tired of it, because your parents had you eat it all the time?

chaa siu baao and lai wong baao are a little bit like this. My Canto teacher said "there are two categories of people who love chaa siu baao: foreigners and children" :-D
But in this case it's not really like what I said above: Children do love it, they're not forced to eat it or even being fed it very often, it's just that HK adults generally get cultured to not very much like sweet things, whereas e.g. Europeans (like me!) eat and enjoy pastries and things their whole life with very little shame. :-)
