any tips for self-directed learning of programming languages?? cos codecademy (& similar sites) is generally too focused on the fundamental basics of programming languages ("print() prints a string literal", etc.) for me, but also the newest language i am familiar with is java, cos that's the newest language any of my profs taught in

and i'm not sure how to self-direct learning, if i'm honest
