So, I've been at my new job for about a month. I like it, people generally seem cool.

In a Slack "watercooler" chat, someone used a "sad Pepe" response to a disappointing post.

Now, in the US, Pepe is a symbol of the alt-right and neo-Nazis. Using Pepe in any regard there is just short of posting a swastika.

This is Canada, though. I don't know this person. They could be a fascist, or they could just like frogs.

Should I engage this person, or let it slide?

@Modern_Industrial I don't think pepe got that connotation in canada.

I still see local neckbeards memeing as usual with it.

@thurloat Are you sure those neckbeards aren't closet Nazis?

@Modern_Industrial pretty sure they (ones i'm referring to) just have hairy necks, and spend far too much time on a computer.

@Modern_Industrial I'm pretty sure anyone who is remotely aware in Canada knows the context around Pepe.

However, Pepe was never intended as a racist symbol and some people have tried to reclaim it. So...hard to say.

Mostly likely, this guy just thinks he's being edgy, but without actually knowing him it's tough to say for sure.
