@seanl That's all nice and principled. But at the same time all our businesses and software are surrounded by people who want to comply with laws, and people who want to enforce them.

You can disagree philosophically with the source of ethics all you want, but as a matter of fact any software you write that risks throwing your users in jail or fining them is software that you end up writing for yourself and your half-dozen best friends.
