Youtube just recommended me a scene from the Witcher 2 (I...guess cos RPG?) and thus reminded me of how awful that is, so I'm gonna post on it once more.
Basically there's a bit in which Mr Obviously Bad Because We're Not Good At Complexity And He's Racist is trying to escape. He sets a tower full of Elf Women (not kidding) on fire while trying to escape.
Iorveth, who is basically Elf Malcom X, urges you to go kill the racist dude cos in his mind, all the elf women are willing to die for the cause (He's the 'drag literally everyone like him into his conflict' type. Your other choice is side with the soldier of a backwards government, mind you)
So, save the literal burning tower full of hot women cos you're the strong manly man! who wants the goddamn power fantasy!
Or kill the racist cos the extremist tells you so and you're a very single-minded person, just...ignore all the background screams.
Anyways, assuming you save the women. You can meet up with one of them later on. She thanks you, and she doesn't have any other bearing other than being a generic merchant.
Oh wait...you can fuck her. She propositions cos you saved her life, and you're the big manly man...
man man man man man man man man man man man man man man man man man man man...
So to recap. The powerful racist man is escaping and attacks the defenseless needy women to cover that, your allied elf man tells you to kill him instead of help them, you, the main buff man, can choose to help the sexy needy women, and get rewarded for it later by plowing one of them, because of course since you saved them they'd want to fuck the handsome courageous man.
...Yknow people get super defensive when you dare to imply or directly say The Witcher is sexist...but er...come on now.
-
@katiekats Im one to rarely bring out the sexism in games debate because I find it extremely tiresome, but frankly the Witcher has always seemed extremely sexist.
-
@maiyannah
Yeah...
That debate is a bit of a walking on broken glass one a lot of the time.
But...yes, The Witcher is very much a "male power fantasy" but gets a lot of defense cos...well it turns out, by utter surprise, lot of people like power fantasy's that specifically cater to them.
-
@katiekats You can do male power fantasy without being degrading of the women.
-
@maiyannah
You can indeed, and Witcher...aha...is not...quite one of those
-
@katiekats People compare it to Mass Effect a lot but I never felt like the women were sex objects there.
