@jordigh I honestly don't think the software an instance uses determines how the userbase behaves. That is mostly determined by the admin's policies and how actively they enforce them.

"I honestly don't think the software an instance uses determines how the userbase behaves." -- obviously false at some level. Mastodon does not have groups and thus the behavior of the userbase is to not use groups.
I think though that it's a big leap from "doesn't use groups" to "complete asshole", which is obviously what you mean in context.
That said, I think the lack of context (as in, not seeing messages when clicking through) and lack of ability to connect with similar people can have a negative impact on cross-platform discussion.
