"I take back all of my genuine legitimate criticisms of a persons content, because they're doing badly in their personal life now."
Apparently it's a harsh controversial opinion to have, but...people need to stop doing this.
Personal life can affect the output and quality of a persons professional content, but...that persons professional content is still a piece of work that can be critiqued and compared like anything else.
If as soon as the person has a rough personal time, you take back everything you said about a separate thing (their work) then...why'd you even say it in the first place?

I've seen a -lot- of people say they're "sorry" for every criticizing Totalbiscuits work, because his cancer has taken a very bad turn for the worst recently.
If your criticisms of his work were valid, there's nothing to be sorry for. Critique of work is good, it allows one to learn and improve. Criticizing work isn't the same as criticizing ones personal life.
I don't really like Totalbisuit, I don't really like his work, at least not anymore. Me saying that isn't some despicable thing because he's having a very rough time. I can say that, and I am, while still thinking he shouldn't have to face the horrible circumstance he's in.
Don't conflate personal insults and critique, and don't feel guilty when the latter is valid. Genuine logical criticism is a -good- thing, and the more people go "oh it was so shitty to ever give any of that cos they're struggling personally now" the more proper constructive critique is quelled.

A surprising amount of people view genuine constructive criticism of a persons work, which is naturally separate from their life, as basically going "fuck you, die"
Those things...really aren't the same.

@katiekats Sure is ironic the times he lashed out and told people to get cancer and die, though. Karma's a bitch.

@maiyannah
Mhm. I've seen lots of people now honestly go "Oh man I feel so bad for calling him out now he's suffering"
Seriously? He was still an asshole then. He still needed to be told he was behaving badly.
By the same logic, we should never ever tell off anyone for doing wrong because hey, one day they might be in a bad situation.
-
@katiekats Why do you think so many people lean on their having illnesses or mental problems? To many people this means they cant be criticised and frankly a lot of people exploit that. Meanwhile people have no problem calling me all sorts of shit.

@maiyannah
As we've both experienced, if you're viewed as being on the 'wrong' side then you just become part of the amorphous indistinct blob they call "our enemies"
-
@katiekats Did you just call me fat

@maiyannah
ah, no, I didn't mean it that way at all >.> You're quite athletic with all the physio stuff.
...which...is hot btw.
