As it is, it is hard to build up a conversation on Mastodon - if you respond to someone, people only ever see your response without context, making them more likely to skip the convo than engage. It also creates more work on the Tooter to create counterpoints or highlight greater narratives.
Sure, it can be used to dunk on people, which creates a negative atmosphere. But Masto users have been a pretty responsible bunch by and large.
