    @bthall I also prefer that. Need-based means everyone is competing with the "veteran down on his luck" who is waiting in front of CVS and the family in the Walmart parking lot. Besides not knowing which needs are real and which are simulated, there are a lot more people who claim to need my help than I can possibly assist. OTOH, if someone tries to find a way to deliver some value to me, I already know they deserve something back.

      @lnxw48a1 In accordance with this view, I wonder how successful some charity/support service might be if it highlighted the arts and customs of some place and only slightly spoke of the role that donations play in supporting the people in need in the communities of such places.
