The thing has been the same for decades, has an ancient CPU, little memory, rubbish screen
Still costs $100 or more
Costs them $15 - $20 to make
Don’t give me that “standard” nonsense. The TI camp does everything possible to keep new generations (and teachers) hooked on the same device when better, cheaper alternatives exist

@cypnk Maxima does what is required. It's gpl. Been around for years and years.
The better question might be: why not ban calculators and build problem sets which exercise skills and train ideas.
