      Seriously though, I haven't seen anyone encourage anyone to think the world owes them anything and that they shouldn't look to improving themselves as a way to meet more people.

      Rather, the Fediverse attitude is pretty much that yeah, people are often lonely and that sucks, but you gotta get out there, get fit and take care of yourself if you want encounters in meatspace. Or if you don't have the spoons to do it, you can just hang here, talk about making social network software and 3D print electronic box housings and get blobhugs.

      I think the Fediverse is more of a base to stand on than enabling anything.
