as much as it'd be nice to ignore what platform everyone is using, it's entirely reasonable to be cautious of certain platforms based on how the majority of users behave.

like, this has become a "not all pleroma users" thing and it's absolutely silly. we're allowed to be cautious/suspicious if your platform is run by fascists and if your friends are unapologetically spouting slurs and harmful rhetoric

"i'm not being bad" is not only derailing the conversation about the bad behaviour and stealing attention away from the users that are actually causing problems, it doesn't in any way help your own case. it's very difficult to judge whether we ourselves are exhibiting bad behaviour.

the best thing to do would be to continue just doing whatever you're doing, while listening to complaints folks have and taking initiative to change yourself or the spaces you participate in

believe it or not the environments we all exist in shape us a great deal. toxic environments normalise toxic behaviour and then it looks normal to those participants, while outsiders may see it for what it is.

many folks on mastodon came here to escape toxic platforms. many folks using pleroma came to the fediverse for their own reasons, but as far as i can tell, they don't seem to have the same goals for what a community should look like

essentially, pleroma users (from my observation) aren't as invested in addressing toxic behaviour within their communities and would prefer to ignore the behaviour of others in their community and deflect the blame for their platform's bad reputation onto others

"pleroma isn't bad, it has many good people! YOU need to stop seeing pleroma as bad!"

chances are when most of a large community is wary of another large community, it's for good reason...

so mastodon users have the choice to either address the bad behaviour or block pleroma users outright.

some of us don't have the energy to "help" all these pleroma users integrate with our communities when many of these pleroma users don't want to change their own behaviour or admit fault. and yet they feel entitled to participation in a community without respecting its users nor the rules they put in place.

nah, that's not how it works

yeah it sucks that a lot of pleroma users who did nothing wrong are facing consequences, but also maybe consider that the consequences are not only easily rectified (making a new account on mastodon, moving to a less toxic pleroma instance or creating your own with better rules/guidelines, etc) but they are also a lot nicer than the alternative of mastodon being overrun with bad behaviour and a lot of users being hurt in a space they've previously considered relatively safe
