If you're looking for a nice self-hosted but multi-user git instance, take a look at Gitolite. It makes backend admin of your repositories, and adding users, authenticated by SSH keys, easy.

When I was in my "git before github" learning phase gitolite is what helped me learn how to work with remotes.

Eventually I ended up using the heck out of ssh remotes without gitolite, but I needed to get over a mental block about the nature of remotes.

Haven't tried pagure yet, but I understand that it's built atop gitolite.
