Nothing like watching 10 year old tv shows to remind that "social media" WAS once called "social networking." Maybe a minor difference, but I'd like to spend some serious time exploring the linguistic implications of this change and other impacts.
For one, it would seem that that the "networking" part of "social media" has been turned into something dangerous, even straight-up subversive.
I think there was more trust when it was "networking" too. In general, people DON'T trust the "media."
