Holy shit is that ever true. And it's a much bigger issue than just the GSA issue discussed in the article.

Unrelated to the GSA issue, this really explains my in-laws and the way they interact with my daughter.
My parents talk to her, play with her, etc.
My in-laws talk *at* her or about her, even when she's sitting right there. It's like they don't see her as a full person.
