Wonderful - my fileserver OS reinstall appears to have renamed all the disk devices under /dev/sd* and I may have just corrupted the partition table of the main (software RAID) disk thinking it was an external drive. Take a backup and rebuild/recover the array s-l-o-w-l-y.
