Why do they need to know this for the purposes of car insurance? Surely not because married people are "more stable, reliable etc" and they'll charge them less? https://social.coop/media/X-MaE7dBdlm37GBKous

That website with the fucking meerkat adverts says:
> Marriage symbolises so many things, not least it demonstrates that youβre responsible and care enough about another human being not to do anything crazy or reckless. Figures suggest that couples and families make fewer expensive claims than singletons.
https://www.comparethemarket.com/car-insurance/content/getting-married/Oh, FIGURES say that. That's okay then.

Car insurance is one of the nastiest, most opaque bits of black-box corporate bureaucracy most of us come across in our day-to-day lives.
Male? Pay more. Female? Pay more. Poor or unemployed? Pay more. Self-employed? Pay more. Single? Pay more. Tenant? Pay more.
The system rewards good, compliant behaviour - own home, married, two kids, Good Job - with lower premiums and penalises those who make different choices about what do to with their life.
