the best strategy in any game of splatoon is to get as close to the enemy spawn as you can and take them down before they have a chance to reach the objective or colour the rest of the map. even if you splat like 2 enemies you end up creating a cushion that the rest of your team can use to push the objective further along.

if you let the fight all pool at the objective, whoever's left standing can immediately hop on it and get the advantage. going backward is easier than going forward.

being that far up the map also lets you spawn your teammates between the objective and the enemy team rather than having to go all the way back and let the other team push forward

and if your team is wiped, it's better to keep yourself alive by hiding and let them go after the objective, if it means an extra teammate can come join you and you can attack from both in front and behind. surround them as much as possible

it'd probably be better to have visual aids for this but i don't quite have the energy to make them today. maybe some other time

strategy is great but there's also a lot of just making shit up on the fly. it takes a lot of practise and pattern recognition but eventually after losing and de-ranking a bunch you start to realise weak spots in most player behaviour and use them to your advantage

if you're doing bad at ranked, i urge you to play more ranked. trust me, playing turf war doesn't really prepare you well enough for it
