   As I gear up to take another crack at learning Spanish with Duolingo, I wonder: are there any #platformcoop (-ish) alternatives emphasizing community control over data?

   A Duolingo-like tool for education in endangered and otherwise under-resourced languages would probably be nice. But it seems very inappropriate for Duolingo Inc. to control and profit from the fruits of those communities' cultural heritages.

      Neil Ashton. Our aim is exactly that.
      However, we have a ways to go as a technology.

      Openwords will be entirely #opensource #OER .. we hope to exit as a #workercoop or benefit Corp. We're watching platform coops closely.

         will anyone from @Openwords be attending the Sowing the Seeds conference on platform coopertivism in Hong Kong at the end of September? I'm guessing there would be huge interest from China and other Asian countries in an open language-learning app.
