   if we're going to treat the browser like a VM hypervisor then can we please get real VMs with real permission models instead of continuous half-measures PLEASE

      we got all these half-measures: localstorage isn't a filesystem or a database, service workers aren't background processes, etc., so we abstract this nonsense to match patterns like filesystems and databases and background processes -- the patterns used everywhere else. and still! hardly any of it prompts the user for permission.

      it's a mess and the folks leading the charge are led by cash and traffic. it's gonna stay a mess.
