      Related to #313, if you symlink the theme to public/theme, and update your server to point to public/index.php instead of index.php, everything works fine.

      Can't composer have the "vendor" directory in ../vendor or something? If that's an issue. I really don't see why index.php in the web root is an issue. I think you'll have to explain more thoroughly.
