Jason_DoddSo I put it back together and the problem disappeared. I wonder if perhaps the 'film' was somehow touching something incorrectly or perhaps there was static built up i discharged. At any rate if you happen to have an external keyboard with a trackpoint that wanders, it might be worth taking it apart and putting it back together.
