my brain isn't ready to accept this. it is very confused and almost nervous looking at that rank under 2v2

that said i had a game of rumble a few minutes ago where i was killing it, i'm starting to consistently pull off some goals and blocks that i only ever managed completely by accident before
my fingers seem to be doing the things i want them to for once.
i think all the playing with bearish and having someone be nice to me in that game for once is really helping

it also helps to have so much practise consistently playing with and against better players

tbh i think any kind of matchmaking system where you have to prove you can beat a player before you've even advanced to their skill level is silly.
advance me to their skill level, give me a few games against them, then derank me if i can't win at all. don't force me to play against someone above my skill level without any practise or warning and then derank me for being overwhelmed

if i'm on silver i should only be facing silver players. if i get to gold, then you can pit me against gold players. that's only fair. if i can't cut it against the gold players, i'll derank to where i'm supposed to be. a single match shouldn't be able to decide whether i can advance or not.

it just all feels like a reflection of society where we assume the worst of people instead of the best.
splatoon's ranking system may be ass but at least they give me plenty of games to lose before i derank. rocket league won't even let you advance unless you magically already play better than folks on the next tier

if we let people consistently play at better ranks, then they'll learn better strategies and have more practise against higher leveled players, and they'll start to play just as good as those around them.
stick them in a conservatively low rank and they'll never be able to learn anything especially good to improve, and what little they learn will only be what they see from players who also aren't that great.

irl we don't have students teach other students at the same level, we largely have teachers that already know what they're doing teach others. or at the very least students who are much further along.
