@thamesynne My sister lives in a major city. She doesn't rent any more, but when she did looking round prospective houses was awful.
Not only was she hustled around the house, she was hustled around with ten other prospective tenants, some of whom had come armed with literal wads of money to put down a deposit there and then.
On one occasion, she went to the agent to rent a house only to be told "sorry, someone else bid more". Bid more. As in agreed to pay more rent to secure it.
