    The oldest of my daughters is actively researching leaving home next month. I did the same as her at the same age, 18. She's on flatmate websites, she's making appointments, she's seeing houses. She can't wait, she's running to the future with her arms open.

    I'm so proud of her. And also me: I want to lie on the floor and howl.

    I have never been ready for the next step, not one time.

      @katebowles it's like spinning plates, but we're on the plates and I didn't know I was on a plate until it wobbled. Then it's too late to look down, stop spinning, or make it all slow down into a nice tea party.

      I hope you can grieve in the garden or at the sea, and celebrate too. That balance thing is impossible to navigate sometimes, and certainly not rational.
