   Forget everything I said about British trains, French trains are the worst. They are trying to fit reservations of coach 8, 18 and 28 in one coach. Interestingly there aren't enough seats.

      @beni Aaagh! Nightmare! I do not envy you.

      Returning from OggCamp in Oxford several years ago the entire west coast line was effectively closed down due to a signalling failure, and all the passengers shifted to the east coast line. Result: trains bursting at the seams with passengers, though the reservations on the train I was on were honoured and the rest just had to stand.
