yesterday I had a frank talk to my students in one class. It's the difference between here's what you do to pass the assessment for the class, and here's what you CAN do with all the opportunities and connections to learn for your life, as well as the assessment.

One of those things you can't 'know' without hindsight, but want to pass on so others have it as foresight. Doesn't always sink in at the time for students, but when it does - magic.
