Trailer camping can be surprisingly complicated/technical at least if you want to have electricity (which I do, though mostly just for the fridge; less so for lights, since we've already got a battery-powered lantern that will work just fine in our tiny trailer). I mean, I could just exclusively go to powered campsites and use their electricity. That's the easy option. But not all the places I like to camp have power, plus it's cheaper to not plugin. So now I'm learning about solar power.

The easy option, of course, is just to run a generator but that's obnoxious and just results in more burning of fossil fuels.

@ink_slinger could also charge a bank of onboard batteries at home to run a very well insulated refrigerator intermittently, only plugging in once every few days or so.

@thurloat That's also an option. I'm not sure how well the one that's in there now is insulated, but we'll figure it out.

@thurloat And, it'll already be running off a battery. The solar would just be to recharge the battery.

I suspect the fridge will run 2-4 days on the battery, but I'm not sure. I've got to do a bit of research and, possibly, a bit of testing.

@ink_slinger doing some quick reading, looks like some folks are able to run some fridges at about 0.2kw/d, get a nice 1-2kw/h lithium ion pack and you've got yourself a few days easy.

@ink_slinger Nothing wrong with a camp fridge that runs on propane. The ammonia absorption cycle is black magic.
