(cybre aspect)@minx I'm using the Kobo Aurora and much prefer it to my (expired) paper white. it comes with all the things you request (epub/pdf support, backlit, calibre). though avoiding the sign sign up gets a bit technical (editing an SQL database), so you may still have to give up some personal data. PDF support could be a bit better too, but overall i really like it and haven't found anything better.
