random science / #meteorology thought : it must be possible to use a years worth of toots to gather reliable (if anecdotal) data on #weather in Europe, USA and beyond- many people here carry out outdoor activity of some kind (cycling, wandering etc) and toot about weather conditions.
(inspired by a toot of mine from last year being boosted when I was up on a roof to inspect a community radio transmitter and it had already become quite cold by night, whereas start of Sep 2017 was warm..)

public health departments do this with social media and disease. I listenes to an interesting #podcast episode a while back about how.the NYC dept of health has been able.to successfully identify outbreaks.of food born illness this way.
