This wouldn't be a problem if mastodon was only in the business of making software but they're also trying to secure a large market share of users. I also can't find a link of this right now but Zoe Quinn financially supported some mastodon thing-- i don't remember what. I usually don't like the position that platforms shouldn't take money from companies or advertise companies because a decent platform with integrity would tell advertisers to pound sand if they wanted to content regulation to be a part of the deal. But when you're getting financial support from people like Zoe Quinn and getting legitimacy from people from Vice and other places, it's clear to me that mastodon has a vision that deviates from what I want in social media alternatives: users and only users deciding for themselves who they block.
