After watching this recent bout of bullying spiral out of control is the first time I've felt the Fediverse might not be for me either.

Regardless of your view on the chap, if that kind of abuse can happen to someone you don't like, it can happen to you, or someone much more vulnerable. It's been made abundantly clear that our anti-abuse tools and our community behaviour are inadequate.

The Fediverse failed today and we need to take a critical look at what can be done.

@ChrisWere I think you're right. But mastodon isn't important because of what it has become and is, to me, but what it could be. Mastodon has bad and good people, but ultimately mastodon is just so much better than the alternative.

@ChrisWere The strength of Mastodon and federation as a whole is supposed to be that when one instance is poorly managed you can use a different instance, or roll your own. This really bums me out, because I only see Wilw trying to be a decent guy, and I hate for one bad admin to ruin that experience for him, and then by association for other people. If my favorite mastodon-ers, such as yourself leave, we just all lose out.

I don't know the solution, but that would be so sad.
