   yet another reason to hate those glass burners: had a pan halfway on it for 10 minutes and i was wondering why one half is so cold...

   ugh. can't see where the freaking burners are half of the time because the whole top is black, and it won't turn on if something isn't touching it.

      @SpookyR I made that mistake exactly once (glass-top oven.)

      There's a whole range of stupid shit that is built for curb appeal rather than actual use.

            @SpookyR Next unit (for new house) will either be a gas-refit vintage iron stove, or... a gas stove. Trying to find an inexpensive drawer fridge. So far, I've found... a drawer fridge, minus cheap:
