I didn't get very far into The Prince by Machiavelli in English before I gave up. It was considerably easier to get through it in Norwegian, perhaps because an official Norwegian written language distinct from the Danish one didn't really come into existence until 1907, so if you want to sound archaic in Norwegian, you have to write in Danish. Your language thus is either modern or it's not Norwegian.
