Just had a voice call on #Wire, using their GNU-Linux desktop app (still in beta), on an ancient netbook (Acer Aspire One) over a VPN. Really impressed with the performance! We could hear each other clearly, and it didn't jitter if we started talking at the same time. We were able to send images and links to each other while talking with no loss of voice quality. Top Marks Wire!

@oz it seems like my laptop's heat and/or the system update that was taking place when we tested the voice calling on Wire may have been interfering, as I suspected. Happy to try again sometime :)

Also, I notice that even though Wire won't automatically sync message between devices, because of the way it's #E2E encryption works, it is able to sync between the web client and desktop client on the same device. Neat. The only major downside I'm aware of is that it's an #Electron app, but they are aware of the problems with this, and some work has been done on a replacement
