    One of the challenges for federating #FreeCode chat apps is the risk that doing so punches security holes in the privacy protecting #E2E #encryption they use. This is one of the reasons we have #XMPP competing with #Matrix, and both competing with walled gardens like #Wire and #Signal, even though both of these have liberated the code for both their clients and servers.

      I wonder if there is a way for chat apps to emulate what #BitTorrent clients do to prevent injection of malware into torrent swarms? So that failing to follow the security protocols correctly would automatically fork you off into your own sub-federation. So SloppyChat can federate with other SloppyChat servers and clients but no others. But if and when they fix their protocol implementation, they are automatically federated with the larger meta-network(s)?
