I don't think this is something that it's possible to generalize about. It's like asking whether books should be made into films. Sometimes you end up with an entirely different product, which may be better or worse than the original. Sometimes a film can shed light on a book, or enable the viewer to see the book in a different way. Sometimes you wish they hadn't bothered.
